Privacy Policy
Effective October 10, 2026
This policy explains what information Dormhub (dormhub.net) collects, how we use it, who can see it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what we need to run the site, we don’t sell or share your personal information, we don’t show ads, and we don’t use third-party tracking or analytics.
1. Who we are
Dormhub is a video-sharing site for college students, run by the Dormhub team at dormhub.net. You can reach us at dormhub.net@gmail.com.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your email address, username, display name and password. Passwords are handled by our login provider (Supabase Auth) and stored only in hashed form; we never see them.
- Your application: what you write when you apply to post (your school, hall and what you’d post). Only you and Dormhub admins can see it.
- Your agreement: the date and version of these Terms and this Privacy Policy you accepted, and your confirmation that you are 18 or older.
- Profile: your profile photo and bio, if you add them.
- Posts: videos, thumbnails, titles, captions and hashtags you post.
- Activity: likes, comments and the accounts you follow.
- Direct messages: messages you send and receive, including videos you share in them, and whether a message has been read.
- Feedback: anything you send through the feedback form, plus your email if you choose to include it, and your username if you’re logged in.
Camera and microphone. If you choose “Record now” on the Post page, your browser asks for permission to use your camera and microphone. The recording stays on your device until you press Post. If you don’t post it, it is never uploaded. We don’t access your camera or microphone at any other time.
Information collected automatically
- View counts: we count how many times each video is watched. These counts are not linked to who watched.
- Technical logs: our hosting and database providers automatically log things like IP addresses, browser type and the time of requests, to keep the service running and secure.
- Cookies and browser storage: we use cookies only to keep you logged in. We also save two small preferences in your browser’s local storage: that you answered the entry check, and whether you prefer the vertical or wide video player. These never leave your device.
We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, third-party analytics, or location tracking.
3. How we use it
- To create and run your account, review applications, and let you post, comment, like, follow and message.
- To show your public content to other people (see section 5).
- To tell our admins about new sign-ups by email.
- To keep Dormhub safe: preventing spam and abuse, enforcing our Terms and Community guidelines, and investigating reports.
- To respond to you when you contact us or send feedback.
- To comply with the law.
Where the law asks for a legal basis (for example, in the EU or UK), we rely on: providing the service you asked for (contract), keeping the service safe and working (legitimate interests), your consent (for example, camera access), and legal obligations.
4. We don’t sell or share your personal information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising (as those terms are defined in California law). We don’t run ads, and we don’t give or rent your information to advertisers or data brokers.
We only disclose information:
- To service providers that run Dormhub for us, who may use it only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase: database, login and file storage
- Vercel: website hosting
- Resend: sending sign-up notification emails to our admins
- When the law requires it, such as a valid court order, or to protect someone’s safety.
- If Dormhub is ever transferred to a new owner, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information unless you’re told otherwise and given a choice.
5. What’s public and what’s private
Public (anyone, including people who aren’t logged in, can see it):
- For approved accounts: your username, display name, profile photo, bio and join date
- Videos, thumbnails, titles, captions and hashtags you post, and their view and like counts
- Your comments
- Who you follow and who follows you
Videos and images you post are stored at public web addresses, so anyone with the link can open them, and people can copy or share them. Think before you post.
Private:
- Your email address and password
- Your application answers (only you and admins)
- Your profile while your application is pending or not approved (only you)
- Your direct messages (only you and the person you’re talking to)
- Your feedback (only admins)
About direct messages: messages are stored on our servers and are not end-to-end encrypted. Dormhub admins have no way to read them in the app. As the operators of the service, we can technically access the database, and we will only look at messages when needed to investigate a report, enforce our rules, or comply with the law.
6. How long we keep it
- We keep your account information and content while your account exists.
- If you delete a video, comment or message, it is removed from the site right away.
- If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account and the content and messages connected to it within 30 days. Copies may remain in our providers’ backups for a short time after that before they are overwritten.
- Feedback is kept until we’ve dealt with it.
- Technical logs are kept by our providers for a limited time under their own retention policies.
7. Your rights and choices
You can:
- See and correct most of your information yourself on your profile and the Edit profile page.
- Delete your own videos, comments and messages at any time.
- Ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, to delete your account and information, or to stop a particular use of it.
To make a request, email dormhub.net@gmail.com from the email address on your account (so we can confirm it’s you). We’ll respond within 30 days. You won’t be treated differently for using these rights. Depending on where you live (for example, California, the EU or the UK), you may have additional rights under local law, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority. We honor these rights for everyone, wherever you live.
8. Age requirement
Dormhub is for college students who are 18 or older. You must confirm you’re 18 or older to create an account. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and never from children under 13. If we learn that someone under 18 has an account, we will close it and delete their information. If you think this has happened, please email dormhub.net@gmail.com.
9. Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and database rules that limit who can read or change each piece of data. No online service can be perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security. If a security breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and any authorities as the law requires.
10. Where your data is stored
Our providers store and process data in the United States and wherever else they operate. By using Dormhub, you understand your information may be processed outside your home country.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If the changes are significant, we’ll let you know on the site, and where required we’ll ask you to agree again.
